Double Revival Success as Both Men’s Teams Reach National Semi-Finals
Revival Sports and Revival Badminton Club have both reached the semi-finals of the First Division Men’s Team Event at the 50th National Badminton Tournament, with the two Revival sides progressing from Group B after a strong run of results.
The First Division Men’s Team Event features eight teams divided into two groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
The two Revival teams were drawn in the same Group B, setting up a direct meeting between the two sides during the group stage.
Revival Badminton Club opened its campaign with a 4-1 victory over Rising Star for Vilufushee Recreation, while Revival Sports began with an emphatic 5-0 win over T-Rex Sports Academy.
The two Revival teams then met in their second group match, with Revival Sports winning 4-1.
In the first singles, Jelang Fajar defeated Ayyoob Azhar Mohamed 15-5, 15-3. Surya Adi Pambudi then secured another point for Revival Sports with a 15-6, 15-3 victory over Hussein Zayan Shaheed Zaki. Revival Badminton Club responded through Hassan Zayan Mohamed, who defeated Adam Maheen Mohamed 15-4, 15-4 in the third singles. Revival Sports, however, took both doubles matches to seal the 4-1 victory.
Jelang Fajar and Nasheeu Sharafuddeen defeated Haisham Ibrahim Ali and Hussein Zayan Shaheed Zaki 15-12, 15-5, while Ali Sharmeel and Surya Adi Pambudi beat Hassan Zayan Mohamed and Mohamed Khalaf Imraan 15-11, 15-8.
Revival Sports continued its momentum in the final group-stage match, defeating Rising Star for Vilufushee Recreation 4-1 on Saturday, September 19. The tie began with a setback for Revival Sports as Adam Maheen Mohamed lost to Iyaan Ahmed Mamdhooh 15-10, 14-16, 7-15 in the third singles.
Revival Sports then responded with four consecutive victories.
Surya Adi Pambudi defeated Muhamdiramgt Wedhaka Senadh 15-10, 15-2 in the second singles. In the first doubles, Ali Sharmeel and Jelang Fajar defeated Iyaan Ahmed Mamdhooh and Shizan Siraaj 15-7, 15-5. Rishwan Shiyam and Surya Adi Pambudi then beat Mohamed Waaee Abdul Wahid and Muhamdiramgt Wedhaka Senadh 15-8, 15-7 in the second doubles.
Jelang Fajar completed the 4-1 team victory with a 15-6, 15-3 win over Shizan Siraaj in the first singles. Revival Badminton Club also secured another 5-0 victory, defeating T-Rex Sports Academy to strengthen its position in Group B and secure its semi-final place. Hassan Zayan Mohamed defeated Mohamed Ilan Bin Rilwan 15-7, 15-6 in the third singles. Ayyoob Azhar Mohamed followed with a 15-2, 15-7 victory over Yoosuf Shail Ismail in the second singles.
In the first doubles, Hassan Zayan Mohamed and Mohamed Khalaf Imraan defeated Eelaaf Mohamed Ikram and Yoosuf Ethaan Bin Shifaz 15-11, 15-6. Haisham Ibrahim Ali then beat Ismail Shaikhoon Bin Hussain 15-9, 15-2 in the first singles.
The fifth point came from Ahmed Ayaan Bin Mohamed and Ayyoob Azhar Mohamed, who defeated Ahmed Akil Masuood and Mohamed Yuan Arafath Saeed 15-8, 16-14 in the second doubles.
With both teams advancing from Group B, Revival will now have two teams competing in the First Division Men’s semi-finals.
Revival Sports will face Elite Warriors Sports Club, while Revival Badminton Club will take on Police Club. Both semi-finals are scheduled for 9:00 PM tonight, setting up a major night for Revival Sports and its players at the landmark 50th National Badminton Tournament.
The progression of both Revival teams into the last four further highlights the depth of the club’s men’s programme, with players from its National Squad, senior setup and development system contributing across singles and doubles.
